Benefits of NCLB

  • The intentions of NCLB were great.  If it had accomplished all that it was originally supposed to it would have been very successful.
  • It led to greater accountablity for teachers, which was a necessary change.
  • It brought the need for educational reform to the attention of the masses and started important conversations.  In addition it made educational reform a political issue, raising the stakes for candidates.
  • It raised the standards for what is acceptable in terms of curriculum.
  • Minor improvements in overall test scores were a result.
  • It saved money by denying funding to schools who failed to meet standards.
